My mother, Vicki Schramm, and I both grew up in Whittier. My mom was a teacher at Fairgrove Academy, a parent choice school for the visual and performing arts and technology, is a long-time member of the Whittier YMCA Camp Arbolado Camping Services Committee and a current member of the Whittier Art Association board. She has always been extremely interested in supporting the arts in Whittier. First and foremost, my mom is an artist.
I have been a computer programmer for the last decade and I had always told my mom that I would build her a website for her artwork. When we started talking about her website, she mentioned that some of her friends were thinking about websites for their artwork too. Eventually, we decided that a community site that housed a number of smaller artist's sites would be technically more efficient, a bigger magnet for search engines and traffic, and offer a one-stop-shop for local art lovers. After looking at other, larger community sites for artists, we hammered out the details and built it. We wanted our site to be small enough that it is easy to find what you are looking for, yet have enough artists, working in different media to make it interesting. We also wanted to make it easy for artists that are uncomfortable with a computer and we wanted the site to be very professional and clean. Above all, we wanted our artists to be proud to share their web address with the people they meet!
Needless to say, we put our heads together and hatched WhittierArtists.com!
Thanks for visiting WhittierArtists.com!
